Lemon Water Ritual

Simple. Powerful.

I know, we all know that hydration is super important. Getting enough water during the day is an obvious thing for me to mention here. But I want to remind you that adding the juice of ¼ - ½ lemon to that first glass of water is a very powerful habit.

For best results, brush your teeth BEFORE you drink lemon water (and if you want to take it a step further, perform oil pulling before you do that!)

This morning water should be room temperature. Drinking this water first thing in the morning, even without the lemon, will help to flush your digestive system as well as rehydrate your body. If you think, you’ve been sleeping for (hopefully!) 8 hours. Beginning your day by re-hydrating your body, gently, with room temperature water is a great way to get your body and mind moving. This simple ritual can noticeably provide more energy and improved digestion throughout the day.

During sleep your liver is extremely active, this is the time your body is taking to restore and regenerate. Drinking adequate water, especially in the morning, assists your body in performing at its most efficient.

Adding lemon to this first glass of the day is said to stimulate stomach acid and bile production, preparing your system for the day. Lemons are full of vitamin C and contain potassium, magnesium and copper. Flushing the body and improving digestion and then adding Vitamin C (which is required for collagen production) can result in the happy side effect of smooth, glowing skin.

Follow this lemon water with a glass of clean water to remove any acid. DO NOT brush your teeth for 60 minutes after taking lemon water, this will help preserve the enamel on your teeth.
